Back Pain Care in York

Back pain has a way of changing the little things. You get up from a chair more carefully, cut a walk short or think twice before picking something up from the floor. When those adjustments become part of everyday life, it may be time to find out what is going on.

At Simply Chiropractic, our York chiropractors take the time to look at how your back is moving and how the rest of your body may be affecting it.

Back Pain Is Not Always Straightforward

Back pain can appear suddenly or build gradually over time.

Long hours at a desk, physical work, repetitive lifting, sport and changes in the way you move can all place different demands on the back.

Sometimes people become very good at working around discomfort. They shift their weight, avoid certain movements or rely more heavily on one side without really noticing it.

That’s one reason our assessment looks beyond the spot that hurts.

Looking at How Your Body Moves

Your first visit may include:

  • a discussion of your health history and daily activities
  • a posture scan
  • weight-distribution assessment
  • orthopaedic testing

Where relevant, our chiropractors can also review existing X-rays, MRI scans or CT scans. From 23 October, in-house X-rays will also be available where clinically indicated, providing additional information that may help inform your assessment and recommendations.

Depending on your findings, we may assess how different joints and muscles are functioning together. Dr Daniel Shepherd (Chiropractor) is trained in A.M.I.T.®, an approach used to assess muscle function and identify areas that may not be working as expected.

The aim is to build a clearer picture before discussing whether chiropractic care may be suitable for you.

Care That Fits Your Life

A nurse finishing a long shift, an office worker sitting for much of the day and a golfer repeatedly rotating through a swing place very different demands on their bodies.

Your recommendations should reflect that.

If chiropractic care is appropriate, your plan will be based on your assessment, health history, lifestyle and goals. The clinic uses several chiropractic approaches, and recommendations may also include simple exercises or changes you can make between appointments.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I see a chiropractor if I have already had an MRI or X-ray?

Yes. Bring any existing scans and reports with you. Our chiropractors can review relevant imaging alongside their own assessment. If your presentation requires medical investigation or care outside our scope, we will discuss that with you.

What if I have had back pain for years?

Persistent pain is still worth discussing. Your chiropractor will consider how you currently move and function rather than making assumptions based simply on how long you have been uncomfortable.

Is chiropractic suitable for every type of back pain?

No. Back pain has many possible causes, and chiropractic care will not be suitable for everyone. Your initial assessment helps us identify whether chiropractic care may be appropriate or whether referral elsewhere should be considered.
